The MWR Aquatics program offers recreational swim, lap swim, swim lessons and a wide variety of programming. Program registration can be completed at the Fitness Center front desk.

The Fitness Pool, located in the desert dome - Bldg. 62, is half the size of an Olympic swimming pool (25-meter one way) and has five lanes ranging in depth from 3’ 8” (3m) to 12’ 2” (4m). The Fitness Pool is used for lap swimming, scuba certification classes, aqua aerobics, and available for command training exercises swim lessons and special events.

Pool Rules

Please download the pool rules from the download section to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of our facilities. These rules are in place to keep everyone safe to ensure you have the best time during your time with us! 

*Our busiest time of day is in the afternoon and evening when we have swim lessons, water aerobics and lap swim are available simultaneously. Lap lanes may be reduced to 1 lane 

during this time. For more information about specific program times and pool space availability, please look at the Weekly Calendar that is posted at the MWR Fitness Pool.

 

Lap Swim: Lap swim times are for swimmers who are capable of swimming continuously from one end of the pool to the other. Lanes are first come, first served. Circle Swim is encouraged if others are waiting.

 

Open Swim: During open swim, the pool is available for non-lap activities and relaxation. Enjoy the pool independently or have family time to play together in the pool. 

 

Command PT: Commands can request to reserve up to two lanes for command physical training purposes with no advance methods or routines using equipment (Ex: PRT, PST). Commands are required to follow the policies outlined for reservations and reservation request forms must be submitted to the MWR Fitness Pool Front Desk at least 72 hours prior. Please download Command PT Training Form from the download section.

 

Command Training: During this time period commands can reserve a maximum of two lanes of the pool for usage for command training with specialized equipment. Navy Youth Swim Test:


To attain full, unaccompanied access to the Aquatics facilities, and for other recreational activities as needed, all youths 10- 16 must successfully pass the Navy Youth Swim Test.  Children under 10 who wish to use the deep end must successfully pass the Navy Youth Swim Test, and must be accompanied by an adult guardian at the pool at all times.  Please see complete information and Navy Youth Swim License consent forms in the downloads, and see the Lifeguards at either pool during regular pool hours, to request a swim test.   


Navy Youth Swim Test includes:

  • Swim minimum of 25 yards unassisted and without rest.
  • Swimmers must use a recognizable Front Crawl or Breast-stoke, showing arm-stroke, propulsive kick, and rhythmic breathing (face in the water) for the entire distance.  No swimming underwater or on the back; no 'doggie paddling'.
  • Jump into the deep end of the pool and return to the surface, Tread water for a minimum of 60 seconds, then exit the pool unassisted.

 

Please note, the Navy Youth Swim License is valid for 1 year only, and all Bahrain MWR swim licenses expire yearly on December 31.

 

PRIVATE PARTIES


The Fitness Pool may be rented out after our regular operating hours for private pool parties. Reservations must be booked at least three weeks in advance and reservations can be made by contacting the Aquatics Manager.
